The Duluth East High School Foundation is proud to have provided funding for the betterment of students since 2016. We are pleased to announce our 2026 Grant recipients below. Learn more about the variety of projects funded in this and years past. Applications for the 2027 funding cycle will open January 1, 2027.

2026 Awarded Grants

Special Education Department - $600

Purchase of high interest novels with age-appropriate themes to help match current reading levels for various learning disabilities.

Art Department-Photography - $750

Funds for purchase of a Canon EOS Rebel camera.

Art Department-Ceramics Classes & Pottery Club - $1,781

Replaces failing and critically outdated pottery wheel.

Science Department-Earth and Space Science - $1,955

Lab equipment and hydrology tables for Earth and Space sciences.

Journalism / The Greyhound - $750

Equipment purchase of professional-grade field kits to produce high impact broadcast segments.

Art Department - $370

Replacing flat tables with professional H-frame easels to increase technical accuracy and ergonomic comfort.

Honors 10 English - $750
Assist in funding attendance to Charles Dickens play performance.
Music Department - Guitar Classes - $1,440

Funded purchase of (15) guitars in order to offer additional classes for students.

East Athletics-Soccer / Football / Lacrosse - $2,000

Assists funding the renovation of the East Field Shed into a functional workspace for athletes and coaches.

Principal’s Contingency Fund - $366

Special funds to provide the Principal when budget or district funds are unavailable for important needs for East.

Special Education-Setting 3 - $1,115

Funding for Setting 3 program to provide students meaningful learning experiences to develop community competence.

All-Night Grad Party - $1,000

Funds activities, Police security, and scholarships for the event.

4H Club - $300

Start-up funds to promote East 4H Club and project support at fairs.

Hound Pack - $1,500

Fund Hound Pack for 9th grade orientation and inclusiveness.

East GSA - $750

Attendance assistance for Out Front Youth Summit.

2025

All Night Grad Party – $1,500
The gift will be used to fund the continued expansion of activities during the event, providing an off-duty Duluth Police officer as security for the evening and scholarships for any student who is unable to pay for their registration fee to the event.

East Unified/Setting 3 Special Education – $2000
Supporting Community-Based Learning for Special Education

East Orchestra – $1500
Double Bass Extension: The students are able to experience playing on a bass that has a C extension. It is a very valuable skill to know that is now open to all students, not just a few.

Climate Club – $1500
Composting will bring many positive outcomes to Duluth East High School. The most obvious being, the healthy environmental impact. By reducing food waste and trash at East, the carbon footprint can significantly decrease.

Multilingual Learners (ESL) – $750
Students will be able to better communicate with peers and teachers throughout the school day, improvements to English proficiency assessment

Duluth East Biology – $1000
Update old microscopes for Biology Class. Science students will have access to quality microscopes to use during different cell and scientific process units.

Math Department – $950
Classroom set of calculators: Purchase of a classroom set of TI-30XS Multiview scientific calculators for math classes.

Duluth East Choirs – $1000
Updating Choral Library Music: Replacing many of the songs that are outdated and contain offensive language that couldn’t be performed on stage today. 

Duluth East Girls Swim and Dive Team – $1000
Funds to purchase new parkas. It has been over a decade or more since new parkas have been purchased for the girls team. Parkas in swimming and diving are used for the purpose of helping athletes to maintain warmth and muscle flexibility after warming up in the water.

2024

Special Education Department – $1,000
Funding ten classrooms to meet the needs of their Students.

All Night Grad Party – $1,000
Providing scholarships and security for the All Night Grad Party ’24.

Art Department – $1,000
Purchasing of supplies and equipment for student art projects.

Orchestra – $700
For the purchasing of literature and sheet music for chamber music.

East Unified – $1,000
Purchase of Unified Music Equipment and supplies.

Principal’s Contingency Fund – $850
Providing the Principal with discretionary funds to meet unfunded needs of the school.

Art Department – $800
Providing funds for photography purchase of two Canon EOS Rebel cameras.

Mental Health Practitioner – $1,000
Providing funds to partially provide funding for experience of students involved in the program.

Science Department – $750
Providing partial funding for DNA Mapping kits and needed microscopes.

Boys’ and Girls’ Golf – $600
Funds to partially fund equipment needs. Specifically, mats, nets, and targets.

East Cheerleading – $800
For the purchase of signs and flags to help promote school spirit.

East Media Center – $500
Partially funding the purchase of “MakerSpaces” for student use in the Media Center.

2023

All Night Grad Party – $1,000
Provide scholarships for deserving students, fund busing, and provide security personal. 

Ceramics and Glass/Metal/Fiber Classes – $500
For the purchase of tools and materials for creating new innovative projects and advanced tools and processes for a new CITS Ceramics course.

Replacing Training Equipment Duluth East Swimming and Diving – $1,000
In order to train effectively and safely, to help defray costs of new equipment for boys’ and girls’ teams.

Calculators for Special Education Department – $1,000
Assistance for providing calculators that are the same for everyone in a classroom. This will provide effective and appropriate services to students on IEPs and that have disabilities.

EHS Science Fair Club – $800
This grant is given to help defray the costs of of students to attend the Science Fair in St. Paul after winning regional honors.

Unified (Special Olympics) Cheer Team – $1,700
To assist in the purchase of East Cheer Team uniforms for Special Education students who work with The East Cheer team so that they will have the same uniforms.

Career Center – $700
For the purchase of up-to-date materials for use in the Career Center as students explore career opportunities after graduation.

Duluth East Journalism / The Greyhound – $750 
For the purchase of a laptop computer for production of the school newspaper. This is even more important with the computer labs being dismantled with the exception of the Career and Tech Ed labs.

Boys’ & Girls’ Swim Teams – $2,000
Needed to purchase a display case to display the trophies and awards won by the swim teams, currently these are unable to be displayed for lack of space.

HOSA for Circle of Friends – $200
To assist HOSA students in planning and implement special needs students with the transportation to attend prom.

Principal’s Discretionary Fund – $1350
A special fund established by the East Foundation to provide the East Principal with funds when the budget or district funds are unavailable to provide for important needs of East High students. 

History Day – $500
A special grant designated by a donor to assist students in attending a national competition.

East Orchestra – $500
For the purchase of Bow Bags to protect bows in storage and travel.

2022

All Night Grad Party – $1200 
Provide scholarships for deserving students, fund busing, and provide security personal.

Physical Education Department – $500
Purchasing badminton rackets and provide for repairs.

Science Department – $2000
Updating science labs and purchasing new lab equipment.

Establishing an Emergency Purchase Fund – $500

Updating Career books in multiple fields and purchasing a standing rack.

Development and construction of a safer access from East High School to the Lakewalk avoiding the traffic congestion of the main East entrance.

2017

East Activities Department – $1000
For the purchase of a Wall Wrap project promoting school spirit at the East gym door in the atrium.

Science and Forestry Fish-Wildlife Management – $1500
For their development of the East Forest with trails, classroom, and benches for school use and that of neighbors.

East Theater Department – $500
For the development to broadcast live video feeds for use in the auditorium for use by the school for special events.

2016

East Theater Department – $650
To purchase wireless microphones to avoid having to rent them for each production.

East Circle of Friends – $500
To purchase promotional materials for the program.

East Daredevils Robotics Team  $250
